Riverside County, VA (FEB 13th, 2025)- A 52-year-old man tragically lost his life weeks after being involved in a hit-and-run accident in Cathedral City. Ruben Mijarez, a Cathedral City resident, succumbed to his injuries on Monday at Loma Linda University Medical Center, where he had been transferred due to the severity of his condition.
The accident occurred on Friday, January 31, at around 7:50 p.m. on Ramon Road, west of Landau Boulevard. According to the Cathedral City Police Department, Mijarez was struck by a vehicle while crossing Ramon Road. Officers arrived to find him conscious in the eastbound lanes of the road, where he indicated that a vehicle had hit him before fleeing the scene.
Despite the presence of several bystanders, police were unable to locate any witnesses to the collision. After initial treatment at Desert Regional Medical Center in Palm Springs, Mijarez was transferred to Loma Linda University Medical Center for specialized care. Sadly, nearly two weeks after the incident, his injuries proved fatal.
The Cathedral City Police Department continues to investigate and has urged anyone with information about the incident to come forward. Witnesses or anyone with details about the suspect vehicle are encouraged to contact Traffic Officer J. Bird at 760-770-0332 or via email at [email protected]. Information can also be submitted anonymously through Coachella Valley Crime Stoppers by calling 760-341-STOP or via the WeTip hotline at 1-800-78-CRIME.
Compensation Available for Victims and Families
For victims of hit-and-run accidents and their families, the aftermath can be both emotionally and financially overwhelming. Compensation can provide critical relief to cover medical expenses, lost wages, pain and suffering, and in tragic cases like this, wrongful death benefits. These funds can assist families in covering funeral costs, addressing the emotional distress caused by their loss, and providing financial stability in the absence of a loved one.
Hit-and-run cases, however, present unique challenges, especially when the at-fault driver has not been identified. Families may need to pursue compensation through uninsured motorist coverage or explore other legal options to seek justice and financial recovery.
