What Happened
According to the Huntington Beach Police Department, the 70-year-old bicyclist was traveling southbound on Pacific Coast Highway when he attempted to merge into traffic and turn east onto Newland Street. A white Subaru Impreza, also traveling southbound on PCH, struck the cyclist during the maneuver. Responding officers found the victim unconscious in the roadway. The 20-year-old Huntington Beach driver of the Subaru remained at the scene and cooperated with investigators. Detectives noted that drugs or alcohol did not appear to have been a factor for the Subaru driver, though the investigation into all contributing factors remains ongoing.

Huntington Beach Police Department officers and paramedics responded to the scene near Pacific Coast Highway just north of Newland Street following the crash.
