Los Angeles, CA (Jul 1st, 2025)- Authorities identify the victim in Hollywood hit-and-run crash as 36-year-old Erika Edwards of Van Nuys, who tragically lost her life at the scene. The fatal incident occurred around 9:03 p.m. on Sunday near the intersection of Sunset Boulevard and Sierra Bonita Avenue, according to the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner’s Office.
The Los Angeles Police Department reported that the vehicle involved was traveling eastbound on Sunset Boulevard when it struck Edwards. She had been crossing southbound on Sierra Bonita Avenue but was outside of the designated crosswalk at the time of the crash. After the collision, the driver fled the scene, continuing south on Gardner Street in what has been described as a blue Mercedes-Benz G-Class SUV, LAPD Officer David Cuellar confirmed.
This tragic event underscores the ongoing dangers pedestrians face in busy urban areas like Hollywood. Crossing outside of crosswalks, especially at night, can increase the risk of such accidents. Still, the responsibility always lies with the driver to remain on the scene and render aid if involved in a collision. Fleeing the scene is not only illegal—it’s inhumane. The search is ongoing for the hit-and-run driver, and LAPD is asking for anyone with information to come forward.
The Legal and Financial Stakes for Victims’ Families
In cases like this, the family of a hit-and-run victim may be entitled to significant compensation. This can include damages for wrongful death, loss of companionship, funeral expenses, medical bills (if any were incurred prior to passing), and emotional distress. Additionally, punitive damages may be pursued against the at-fault driver for their egregious act of fleeing the scene. These types of compensation are not just financial—they’re about justice, accountability, and helping a grieving family find some form of closure during an incredibly painful time.
