Los Angeles, CA (June 25th, 2025)- Biker killed in hit-and-run incidents continue to leave families devastated and justice out of reach. One such tragedy occurred on June 1, when 34-year-old Jose Villalobos was struck and killed by a speeding driver in South Los Angeles. More than three weeks later, police have yet to identify the person responsible. On Wednesday, the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) announced it is renewing its plea to the public for information, as all current leads have been exhausted.
According to investigators, Villalobos was riding west on Century Boulevard near San Pedro Street around 11:10 p.m. when he was hit by a silver Chevrolet Camaro traveling in the same direction. Surveillance footage from the area captured the moment the vehicle violently struck the bicyclist, throwing him onto the roadway. The driver failed to stop, offer assistance, or identify themselves, fleeing the scene immediately after the crash. Villalobos was pronounced dead at the scene by Los Angeles Fire Department paramedics.
Despite an initial public outreach on June 18, no credible tips have emerged. Now, the LAPD’s South Traffic Division is turning once again to the community, highlighting a $50,000 reward for any information leading to the arrest and conviction of the hit-and-run driver. Investigators will release additional surveillance footage and images of the suspect vehicle during a scheduled press conference.
Police reported that after the collision, the suspect made a right onto San Pedro Street, continued northbound, and then turned westbound onto East 98th Street — all without stopping. Fleeing the scene of a deadly crash is a serious crime under California law, and detectives remain committed to bringing the responsible party to justice.
As police continue their investigation, it’s important to recognize that victims’ families have legal options available. In hit-and-run cases that result in wrongful death, family members may be eligible for compensation covering funeral expenses, medical bills, loss of income, pain and suffering, and loss of companionship. Even if the at-fault driver is not immediately identified, victims may still have recourse through uninsured motorist claims or civil litigation.
