Los Angeles, CA (Jan 30th, 2025)- Boyle Heights Hit-and-Run Leaves Cyclist Dead, after a vehicle struck a bicyclist in the predawn hours of Thursday morning and fled the scene, according to authorities. The fatal crash occurred at approximately 5:20 a.m. at the intersection of Boyle Avenue and Seventh Street in Boyle Heights, a busy corridor even during early morning hours.

The Los Angeles Police Department reported that the vehicle involved was traveling southbound on Boyle Avenue and turning west onto Seventh Street when it struck the cyclist. Emergency responders arrived quickly, but the rider was pronounced dead at the scene. At the time of reporting, police had not released a description of the suspect vehicle or the driver involved, highlighting the challenges investigators face in hit-and-run cases.

Images from the scene showed a white pop-up tent erected in the intersection, a somber reminder of the severity of the crash and the life lost. Traffic investigators closed portions of the roadway as they worked to document evidence, analyze the crash dynamics, and search for witnesses or surveillance footage that could help identify the driver responsible.

The LAPD’s Central Traffic Division is leading the investigation and has urged anyone with information about the fatal collision to come forward. Witnesses or individuals who may have dashcam or nearby security camera footage are encouraged to contact the Central Traffic Division at 213-833-3746. Even small details can be critical in helping law enforcement hold the at-fault driver accountable.

Compensation at Stake for the Victim’s Family

In fatal hit-and-run bicycle accidents, surviving family members may be entitled to pursue a wrongful death claim. Compensation may include funeral and burial expenses, medical costs incurred before death, loss of the victim’s future income, and loss of financial support.

Families may also seek damages for loss of companionship, care, guidance, and emotional support. If the at-fault driver is identified, additional damages may be available, including punitive damages in cases involving reckless or unlawful conduct. Even when the driver is not immediately found, other avenues of recovery—such as uninsured motorist coverage—may still be available.
