Los Angeles, CA (Aug 27th, 2025)- Crash Victims’ Families Target CHP in Claims following a devastating accident on the San Gabriel River (605) Freeway in Norwalk that left four young lives lost. The families of Julie Hamori, 23, and Armand Del Campo, 24, announced a damages claim against the California Highway Patrol (CHP), alleging that a CHP officer’s actions directly triggered the fatal chain of events.
The tragedy unfolded just before 1 a.m. on July 20, north of Rosecrans Avenue. According to attorneys representing the victims’ families, a CHP cruiser rear-ended a Nissan sedan occupied by Hamori, Del Campo, and two others. The impact disabled the Nissan in the fast lane of the freeway. Instead of securing the scene, attorneys argue the CHP officer moved the patrol car off the road but failed to deploy warning flares or lights, leaving the Nissan exposed to oncoming traffic.
Moments later, a suspected drunk driver crashed into the disabled Nissan, sparking a fiery explosion that killed all four passengers. Family members say this second collision could have been prevented had proper safety measures been taken immediately after the first crash.
Following the incident, CHP officials confirmed the Nissan had first been struck by a patrol vehicle before being hit again by a Kia sedan. They stated additional officers were en route when the fatal crash occurred. “This was a heartbreaking tragedy, and our thoughts are with the families impacted,” the CHP said in a statement. Both crashes remain under investigation.
At a news conference, attorney Thomas Feher described the initial collision as the catalyst for the deadly outcome. “The CHP slammed into the back of Julie and Armand’s car with such force that it disabled their vehicle in the fast lane. At least seven minutes passed before the second, fatal impact,” Feher explained.
For Del Campo’s mother, Angie Reed, the loss was particularly devastating. She recalled receiving a text message from her son after the first crash, assuring her he was safe and waiting for police assistance. Hours later, she was notified that her son and the others had died in the fiery wreck. “I need to know what happened, and we need answers now,” she said tearfully.
The Type of Compensation at Stake
In cases like this, the families of crash victims may be entitled to several forms of compensation. Wrongful death claims often include damages for medical costs, funeral and burial expenses, lost future earnings, and the emotional pain of losing a loved one. In addition, families can pursue compensation for loss of companionship and support — critical elements when young lives with bright futures are cut short. Claims against government entities like the CHP can be complex, requiring strong legal representation to navigate liability issues and maximize recovery.
