A cyclist fatally struck in North Hollywood hit-and-run crash has prompted an urgent search for the driver responsible, as authorities continue to investigate the tragic incident. The collision occurred late Monday night, around 10:56 p.m., on Lankershim Boulevard just south of Arminta Street. Officers from the Los Angeles Police Department’s North Hollywood Division responded to the scene after receiving reports of the collision.
According to LAPD Officer Charles Miller, a silver, older-model Dodge Ram pickup truck was seen heading southbound on Lankershim Boulevard when it struck a 52-year-old male cyclist. Shockingly, the driver failed to stop, render aid, or notify emergency services and continued driving south without regard for the life he had just taken. The victim was found in critical condition and was quickly transported to a nearby hospital by Los Angeles Fire Department personnel. Sadly, despite medical intervention, he was pronounced dead shortly after arrival. The man’s identity has not yet been released, pending notification of his family.
The Los Angeles Police Department’s Valley Traffic Bureau has taken over the investigation and is working diligently to identify the driver and bring them to justice. Officers are seeking the public’s help in locating the suspect vehicle, described as a silver, older Dodge Ram that may have sustained front-end damage as a result of the crash.
Compensation Available for Victims’ Families in Fatal Hit-and-Run Accidents
When a loved one is lost in a hit-and-run crash, the emotional toll is devastating. But alongside the grief comes serious financial consequences. At our law firm, we understand that families need answers — and support. In cases like this, the victim’s surviving family may be eligible for wrongful death compensation. This could include medical expenses incurred before the victim’s passing, funeral and burial costs, loss of financial support, and compensation for emotional pain and suffering.
In California, hit-and-run cases involving fatalities also open the door to punitive damages, especially if the responsible party is later found and proven to have acted with gross negligence or intentional disregard for human life. Additionally, if the driver is never located, the victim’s family may still have the right to seek compensation through their own uninsured motorist (UM) coverage.
