Los Angeles, CA (May 5th, 2025)- Deadly Hit-and-Run Reported in Canoga Park when an unknown motorist struck and killed a pedestrian in the early hours of Friday, then disappeared without rendering aid. The Los Angeles Police Department has launched an urgent manhunt for the driver responsible for the fatal collision, which claimed the life of a man walking along Sherman Way outside of a marked crosswalk.

The crash unfolded at approximately 1:15 a.m. on Friday, when officers from the LAPD’s Valley Traffic Bureau were dispatched to the intersection of DeSoto Avenue and Sherman Way. According to LAPD Officer Jeff Lee, the victim was crossing eastbound on Sherman Way when a vehicle traveling in the same direction collided with him.

Emergency responders from the Los Angeles Fire Department pronounced the man dead at the scene. No description of the fleeing vehicle has yet been released, and investigators are appealing to the public for any dash-cam footage or eyewitness accounts that might help identify the perpetrator.

Investigators believe the driver failed to realize the severity of the collision—or chose to ignore it entirely—when they continued driving away from the scene in an unknown direction. Leaving an injured person without assistance is a violation of California’s hit-and-run statutes, carrying severe penalties including felony charges if the victim is killed.

The Valley Traffic Bureau has taken the lead on this case, conducting a thorough forensic examination of the roadway, interviewing witnesses, and canvassing nearby homes and businesses for surveillance video.

This tragedy underscores both the vulnerability of pedestrians in busy urban corridors and the critical need for swift legal recourse for victims’ families.

Under California law, surviving family members of a wrongful-death victim may be entitled to compensation for funeral expenses, lost income, loss of companionship, and emotional suffering. While no amount of money can replace a loved one, securing full and fair damages can alleviate the financial burdens that follow such a devastating loss.

Pedestrians account for a significant portion of traffic-related fatalities in Los Angeles County. When drivers neglect their duty to share the road safely, catastrophic outcomes ensue.
