Los Angeles, CA (Jan 26th, 2026)- Fatal Pedestrian Collision Reported on I-110 in South LA has left a family grieving after a man was struck and killed while attempting to cross lanes on the Harbor (110) Freeway over the weekend.
According to the California Highway Patrol (CHP), the fatal incident occurred at approximately 12:40 p.m. on Saturday in the northbound Express Lanes beneath the Glenn Anderson (105) Freeway interchange in South Los Angeles. Emergency responders arrived at the scene after reports of a pedestrian being hit by a vehicle traveling through the express lanes.
Authorities said the victim was found lying in the roadway and was pronounced dead at the scene. The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner later identified the pedestrian as 41-year-old Johnny Ansdell. Additional details regarding his city of residence have not been released.
The driver involved in the crash was operating a gray Hyundai SUV. CHP confirmed that the driver, a woman, remained at the scene and cooperated with investigators. No arrests were immediately reported, and officials have not yet disclosed whether drugs, alcohol, speed, or other factors may have contributed to the collision. The investigation remains ongoing.
Following the incident, CHP officers temporarily halted traffic in the northbound Express Lanes to allow for the investigation and cleanup. A SigAlert was issued at approximately 1:17 p.m., causing significant traffic delays in the area. The alert was lifted shortly after 3:19 p.m., and normal traffic flow eventually resumed.
Compensation That May Be Available to the Victim’s Family
In fatal pedestrian accidents such as this, surviving family members may be entitled to pursue a wrongful death claim. Compensation in these cases can include funeral and burial expenses, loss of financial support, loss of companionship, and loss of future income the victim would have provided. In some circumstances, families may also recover damages for medical expenses incurred before death and, where applicable, pain and suffering experienced by the victim before passing.
Determining liability in freeway pedestrian accidents can be complex. Factors such as driver negligence, roadway conditions, visibility, vehicle speed, and compliance with traffic laws all play a role in assessing responsibility. This is why having experienced legal guidance is critical during such a difficult time.
