Fiery Freeway Crash in Anaheim Hills Kills Two [Orange County, CA]

Orange County, CA (FEB, 27th, 2025)- A fiery freeway crash in Anaheim Hills kills two in a tragic multi-vehicle collision that forced the closure of several lanes on the Riverside (91) Freeway early Wednesday morning. The fatal incident, involving four vehicles, occurred near the Coal Canyon Road off-ramp and is under investigation by the California Highway Patrol (CHP).

Details of the Fatal Crash

CHP Officer Sergio Rivera reported the collision around 12:50 a.m. when authorities responded to the scene. Investigators found multiple vehicles involved in the crash, along with three victims who had tragically lost their lives.

The chain of events began when an Infiniti sedan stopped in the No. 2 lane of the freeway for unknown reasons. A Honda, traveling behind the Infiniti, also stopped, but moments later, a Hyundai crashed into the rear of the Honda with significant force. The impact caused the Honda to erupt into flames, trapping and killing all three of its occupants. Meanwhile, a passing Toyota sustained minor damage in the incident but was not a major factor in the crash.

Although the other drivers involved in the collision reported experiencing pain, they did not suffer severe injuries. Authorities are working to confirm the identities of the victims who were in the Honda.

Investigation and Traffic Disruptions

The CHP issued a SigAlert, shutting down all eastbound lanes of the 91 Freeway for several hours as investigators worked to determine the cause of the crash. Authorities have not yet determined why the Infiniti was stopped in the middle of the freeway, nor have any additional factors, such as mechanical failure, driver impairment, or road conditions, contributed to the deadly collision.
