Lancaster Hit-and-Run Leaves One Pedestrian Dead [Los Angeles, CA]

Los Angeles, CA (April 8th, 2025)- A Lancaster hit-and-run leaves one pedestrian dead, prompting an active investigation by sheriff’s detectives and raising serious concerns about driver accountability and pedestrian safety.

According to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, the fatal incident occurred around 11:40 p.m. on Monday at the intersection of Avenue J and Hanstead Avenue. Deputies from the Lancaster Station responded quickly to the scene after receiving reports of a pedestrian being struck in the roadway.

Preliminary findings indicate that the pedestrian was crossing Avenue J in a northbound direction, but outside of a marked crosswalk, when a sedan traveling westbound hit him and fled without stopping. Moments later, a second vehicle—a Toyota Camry—also traveling westbound on Avenue J, struck the victim again while he was lying on the roadway.

Tragically, paramedics with the Los Angeles County Fire Department pronounced the pedestrian dead at the scene.

Detective Ryan Ament of the Lancaster Sheriff’s Department confirmed that the driver of the Toyota Camry stayed at the scene and is cooperating with the investigation. Authorities are still working to determine whether speed, alcohol, or drugs were contributing factors in the crash. At this time, no further information about the victim or the suspect vehicle has been released.
