A tragic accident in Long Beach claimed the life of 34-year-old Lauren Sjoblom, who was struck and killed by a Long Beach Transit bus earlier this week. The Los Angeles County Coroner’s Office officially identified Sjoblom on Thursday, shedding light on the devastating incident that has left the community in mourning.
The accident occurred around 6:55 p.m. on Tuesday at the intersection of Shoreline Drive and Seventh Street, according to the Long Beach Police Department. Preliminary investigations revealed that the transit bus was traveling northbound on Shoreline Drive, just south of Seventh Street, when it collided with the pedestrian. Sjoblom was reportedly in the roadway but outside of a marked crosswalk when the accident happened.
Police stated that the driver of the bus immediately reported the collision, and Long Beach Transit is fully cooperating with the ongoing investigation. Authorities added that there is currently no evidence to suggest speed, distracted driving, or impairment played a role in the crash.
Emergency responders from the Long Beach Fire Department arrived at the scene and attempted life-saving measures. Sadly, Sjoblom was pronounced dead at the scene, leaving friends, family, and the local community grappling with the sudden loss.
