Los Angeles, CA (April 25th, 2025)- Man Fatally Struck in Hit-and-Run Crash in Long Beach has been identified as 45-year-old Jeffrey Krajeski, authorities announced Thursday. Krajeski was walking near the intersection of Seventh Street and Channel Drive at approximately 11:00 p.m. on Tuesday when he was first struck by a 2024 Hyundai IONIQ 5. The driver of the IONIQ 5 immediately pulled over to the curb and exited the vehicle to render aid, then summoned emergency services to the scene.
While the first motorist was tending to Krajeski, witnesses described a second vehicle—a dark-colored pickup truck—careening into the intersection. That truck ran over the already injured pedestrian before speeding away, leaving both the victim and the Good Samaritan in shock. Despite the initial driver’s efforts to protect and assist Jeffrey, the hit-and-run suspect failed to stop, compounding the tragedy.
Long Beach Fire Department paramedics arrived shortly thereafter and assessed Krajeski’s injuries. Tragically, he was pronounced dead at the scene. First responders worked swiftly to clear debris and secure the area, but their lifesaving measures could not reverse the catastrophic harm caused by the collision.
Investigators from the Long Beach Police Department’s Collision Investigation Detail are piecing together the events leading up to the fatal crash. At this stage, detectives have not ruled out excessive speed, driver distraction, or impairment as contributing factors. It remains unclear whether Krajeski succumbed to injuries from the initial impact with the Hyundai or from the subsequent strike by the fleeing truck.
Police are urging anyone with information about the suspect vehicle or the driver involved in this hit-and-run to come forward. Tips can be directed to Detective Efrain Pineda at 562-570-7355. Those wishing to remain anonymous may contact Crime Stoppers at 800-222-8477 or submit online information via lacrimestoppers.org. Community cooperation is critical to ensuring justice and holding the responsible party accountable.
In wrongful death and pedestrian collision cases like this one, surviving family members may pursue various forms of compensation. These can include reimbursement for funeral and burial expenses, recovery of medical bills incurred by the victim, and compensation for the family’s loss of financial support. Additionally, damages for emotional distress, loss of companionship, and punitive penalties against reckless drivers may be available under California law. Navigating these complex claims requires thorough knowledge of statutory deadlines, insurance protocols, and liability investigations.
