Riverside County, CA (Dec 16th, 2025)- Man Identified After Fatal Rollover Crash in Riverside authorities have confirmed the identity of a driver who lost his life following a deadly rollover collision on the Moreno Valley (60) Freeway. The incident occurred Saturday evening and prompted a significant emergency response and temporary freeway closures as investigators worked to determine what led to the crash.

According to the California Highway Patrol, officers were dispatched at approximately 6:22 p.m. to the eastbound lanes of the 60 Freeway, just west of Day Street in Riverside. Callers reported a dark-colored vehicle overturned across the HOV and No. 1 lanes, creating a hazardous and chaotic scene for passing motorists.

Witnesses at the scene told investigators that the vehicle appeared to be swerving moments before the crash and was emitting sparks as it traveled along the roadway.

Initial reports also indicated that the vehicle may have struck or driven over large debris in the lanes, which could have caused significant damage and contributed to the driver losing control. The exact sequence of events remains under investigation, and CHP officials have not yet confirmed whether speed, road conditions, or other factors played a role.

The Riverside County Coroner later identified the victim as 33-year-old Carlos Montoya of Wildomar. It remains unclear whether anyone else was inside the vehicle at the time of the rollover.

However, Riverside Animal Control officers were called to the scene to take custody of a dog found at the crash site, suggesting the driver may not have been alone. Coroner’s personnel were summoned at around 8:10 p.m. to handle the fatality investigation.

Due to the severity of the crash, the CHP requested a full closure of the eastbound lanes of the freeway to allow for a thorough investigation and cleanup. Traffic in the area was heavily impacted for several hours as crews worked to clear the wreckage and ensure the roadway was safe to reopen.
