Riverside County, CA (JAN 21st, 2025)- Hunt for Suspect in Fatal Hit-and-Run; The Menifee Police Department is actively searching for a driver involved in a fatal hit-and-run that claimed the life of 53-year-old Lucia Delgado of San Bernardino. Delgado tragically lost her life early Sunday morning while walking along McCall Boulevard, just west of Aspel Road.
According to Menifee Police Department spokesman Chase Coburn, Delgado was in the westbound lanes of McCall Boulevard when the driver of an unidentified vehicle struck her at an unconfirmed speed. “The driver failed to remain on scene and fled the area,” Coburn stated. This heartless act left Delgado lying in the four-lane roadway as the motorist sped away.
Shortly after the collision, another driver passing through the area discovered Delgado’s body and called 911. Despite the swift arrival of Riverside County Fire Department paramedics, who reached the scene within 20 minutes, Delgado was pronounced dead at the scene.
Investigators are working tirelessly to identify and locate the vehicle involved in this tragedy. “Investigators are actively attempting to identify and locate the vehicle involved,” Coburn added. However, no description of the vehicle or suspect has been released. Police have urged anyone with information about the incident to contact the Traffic Bureau at 951-746-8829 or 951-723-1500.
Compensation at Stake for Victims of Fatal Hit-and-Runs
Losing a loved one in a hit-and-run accident is a devastating experience, not only emotionally but also financially. Families of victims like Lucia Delgado may face mounting expenses, including funeral costs, medical bills incurred before the victim’s death, and lost income if the victim contributed to the household. Additionally, families can seek compensation for non-economic damages such as pain and suffering, loss of companionship, and emotional distress caused by the loss.
Securing compensation in hit-and-run accidents can be particularly challenging, as the driver responsible may not be identified. However, victims’ families may be able to pursue compensation through uninsured motorist coverage if it is included in their insurance policies. This coverage can provide a critical financial lifeline for families struggling to recover from such a loss.
