Los Angeles, CA (APRIL 24th, 2025)- Montebello collision claims life of 17-year-old girl. The tragic late-night accident occurred just after 10 p.m. on Tuesday, April 22, near the intersection of Garfield Avenue and Beverly Boulevard in Montebello. Authorities believe the crash followed a high-speed encounter between a Montebello Police Department patrol vehicle and a silver Toyota Camry.
A bystander who witnessed the events told ABC7 that the Camry was traveling at an excessive rate of speed when officers activated their lights and sirens in pursuit. In an apparent effort to evade law enforcement, the driver lost control of the sedan, which careened off the roadway and struck a tree in Ashiya Park.
First responders from the Montebello Fire Department arrived within minutes of the 911 call and worked swiftly to extricate occupants from the badly mangled vehicle. Paramedics used hydraulic rescue tools to pry open damaged doors and lift crushed metal away from the passenger compartment.
Despite their efforts, at least one person—later identified by the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner’s Office as 17-year-old Alina Lozano—was pronounced dead at the scene. Video footage captured by onlookers shows severe frontal damage to the Camry, underscoring the violent nature of the impact.
The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner’s Office confirmed the identity of the young victim on Wednesday, April 23. In addition to Ms. Lozano, it remains unclear whether any other individuals were inside the vehicle at the time of the collision.
Investigators are canvassing nearby businesses and residences for surveillance footage, while Montebello Police continue their inquiry into what precipitated the pursuit and subsequent crash. Preliminary reports indicate no signs of impairment on the part of the victim, but toxicology and accident reconstruction analyses are pending.
Families coping with sudden loss in crashes like this face not only emotional devastation but significant financial burdens. Victims’ loved ones may be entitled to compensation for funeral and burial expenses, loss of financial support, and wrongful-death damages.
Under California law, eligible survivors can also pursue claims for loss of consortium, mental anguish, and punitive damages when egregious conduct—such as a reckless police chase—contributes to a fatal collision.
