Los Angeles, CA (Nov 26th, 2025)- Motorcyclist Identified After Fatal Single-Vehicle Crash in Culver City following a tragic early-morning incident that claimed the life of a 42-year-old rider, authorities confirmed on Tuesday. The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner later identified the victim as Steven Long.
According to the Culver City Police Department, the deadly crash occurred around 1:15 a.m. Sunday near the intersection of Washington Boulevard and Kensington Avenue. Investigators said the motorcyclist was traveling eastbound on Washington Boulevard at a high rate of speed when he lost control of his motorcycle. The exact cause of the loss of control remains under investigation, but early reports indicate that speed may have been a significant contributing factor.
Public Information Officer Jennifer Atenza stated that after the rider was thrown from the motorcycle, first responders quickly arrived at the scene and located him in the parkway area between the curb and the sidewalk. Emergency personnel immediately began life-saving efforts before the victim was transported to a nearby hospital by Culver City Fire Department paramedics. Despite those efforts, the motorcyclist was later pronounced deceased at the hospital.
Police secured the area of Washington Boulevard for several hours while they conducted a preliminary investigation and documented evidence from the crash scene. No other vehicles were reported to be involved in the collision, and no additional injuries were reported. Authorities have not released further details about what may have caused the rider to lose control but continue to review all available evidence, including possible roadway conditions, mechanical issues, and rider behavior.
Fatal motorcycle crashes are an unfortunate and recurring reminder of how vulnerable riders are on the road. Without the protection of a passenger vehicle, motorcyclists face a significantly higher risk of catastrophic injury or death, especially in high-speed incidents. Even single-vehicle crashes can result from factors such as poor road conditions, impaired visibility, mechanical failure, or sudden maneuvers to avoid unexpected hazards.
Compensation at Stake for Victims and Families
When a fatal motorcycle accident occurs, surviving family members may be entitled to pursue a wrongful death claim. Compensation in such cases may include funeral and burial expenses, medical costs incurred before death, loss of financial support, loss of companionship, and emotional suffering endured by loved ones. In certain situations, additional damages may also be available if negligence by a third party—such as a roadway maintenance authority, vehicle manufacturer, or another responsible entity—played a role in the crash.
