A person was killed Tuesday night when a black SUV crashed through the front of a laundromat on Aviation Boulevard in Manhattan Beach, striking a pedestrian who was inside the business. The crash occurred at approximately 8:05 p.m. on June 9, 2026, at Suds & Duds Coin-Op Laundry in the 900 block of Aviation Boulevard, near Manhattan Beach Boulevard. The Manhattan Beach Police Department is investigating the incident, and the circumstances leading up to the crash remain under investigation.

What Happened

According to the Manhattan Beach Police Department and witnesses who spoke with CBS LA, a black SUV crashed into the front of Suds & Duds Coin-Op Laundry on Aviation Boulevard Tuesday evening. Aerial footage from the scene showed the SUV had driven through the front of the laundromat, destroying the storefront. Witnesses told CBS LA that a person who was struck by the vehicle inside the laundromat was killed. Manhattan Beach Police Department officers were seen surveying the area as their investigation began. It was unclear at the time of reporting whether any arrests had been made in connection with the crash.

Emergency Response and Investigation

Manhattan Beach Police Department officers and emergency personnel responded to the 900 block of Aviation Boulevard following the crash. The victim was pronounced dead as a result of the collision. The identity of the victim has not yet been released. Neighboring businesses — including a pizzeria and a liquor store — did not appear to have suffered any damage. The MBPD is continuing its investigation into what led up to the crash and whether any criminal charges will be filed.

Injuries and Community Impact

One person was killed inside the laundromat. The crash occurred in a commercial strip on Aviation Boulevard near Manhattan Beach Boulevard — a busy South Bay corridor with a mix of retail businesses, restaurants, and service shops. The victim was inside a business patronizing a legitimate establishment when the crash occurred, making this a situation with clear potential for civil liability against the driver of the SUV.
