Riverside, CA (Jan 5th, 2025)- Pedestrian Killed in Riverside After Hit-and-Run Incident was the tragic outcome of a crash that has prompted an active search for a fleeing driver, according to authorities in Riverside County.
The fatal collision occurred shortly before 6 p.m. on Wednesday along El Sobrante Road, just east of Mockingbird Canyon Road. California Highway Patrol officers responded to emergency calls reporting a pedestrian who had been struck by a vehicle. When officers arrived at the scene, they found a man lying unresponsive in the eastbound lanes of El Sobrante Road, according to CHP Officer Javier Navarro.
Despite emergency response efforts, the victim was pronounced dead at the scene. Investigators later confirmed that the pedestrian had been hit by a vehicle whose driver failed to stop and fled before authorities arrived. The vehicle involved has not yet been identified, and the investigation remains ongoing as officers work to locate the driver responsible.
On Friday, the Riverside County coroner’s office identified the victim as Ronney Vasquez, a 61-year-old resident of Moreno Valley. Authorities have not released additional details regarding the circumstances leading up to the crash, including whether speed, visibility, or other contributing factors played a role. Anyone with information related to the incident has been urged to contact law enforcement to assist with the investigation.
Hit-and-run pedestrian accidents are among the most devastating traffic incidents, often leaving families with unanswered questions and overwhelming emotional and financial burdens. When a driver leaves the scene, it can delay accountability and complicate the legal process for surviving loved ones seeking justice.
Compensation That May Be Available to the Victim’s Family
In fatal pedestrian hit-and-run cases, surviving family members may be entitled to pursue a wrongful death claim. This type of claim can help recover compensation for damages such as funeral and burial expenses, loss of financial support, loss of companionship, and the emotional pain and suffering endured by close relatives. In some cases, compensation may also be available through uninsured or underinsured motorist coverage if the at-fault driver cannot be located or lacks sufficient insurance.
Every case is unique, and the types of compensation available depend on the specific facts, available evidence, and applicable insurance coverage. That is why families must seek experienced legal guidance as early as possible.
