Los Angeles, CA (Jul 15th, 2025)- Police call on witnesses to identify the motorist in a hit-and-run crash that left a cyclist seriously injured in Los Angeles’ Pico-Union neighborhood. The Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) is seeking the public’s assistance in locating the driver responsible for the incident, which occurred in the early morning hours of May 28.
According to LAPD reports, the crash took place at approximately 3:15 a.m., when a bicyclist was traveling southbound on Hoover Street and attempted to cross 20th Street. At that moment, a white sedan making a left turn onto 20th Street from Hoover struck the cyclist. Rather than stopping to render aid, the driver fled the scene, continuing westbound on 20th Street in the direction of the Santa Monica (10) Freeway.
Emergency responders from the Los Angeles Fire Department arrived on the scene and transported the victim—a man believed to be in his 60s—to a nearby hospital for urgent medical evaluation and treatment. As of the time of this report, additional details about his condition remain undisclosed.
Authorities have urged anyone with knowledge of the vehicle or its driver to come forward, emphasizing the legal responsibility of all motorists to remain at the scene of a collision. “Motorists are reminded that if they become involved in a traffic collision, they should pull over and stop as soon as it is safe to do so, notify emergency services, and remain at the scene to identify themselves,” LAPD stated.
What Compensation Is Available for Hit-and-Run Victims?
Victims of hit-and-run accidents often suffer not only from physical injuries but also from emotional trauma and financial instability due to mounting medical bills and loss of income. In California, injured parties may be entitled to various forms of compensation, including:
Medical expenses (emergency care, rehabilitation, medication)
Lost wages from time missed at work
Pain and suffering due to physical and emotional distress
Future medical costs for ongoing treatment
Property damage (e.g., damaged bicycle or other belongings)
Even if the at-fault driver is not immediately located, there may still be options for pursuing compensation through uninsured motorist coverage or other legal avenues.
