A shocking incident unfolded late Friday night when a teen driver slammed into two homes in a Huntington Beach crash, leaving residents shaken and property severely damaged. The driver, an unlicensed 17-year-old male, reportedly lost control of the vehicle while speeding southbound on Newland Street, crashing into a tree and two residential structures in the 19100 block.
According to a statement released by the Huntington Beach Police Department, the crash took place at approximately 10:37 p.m. on Friday. “Based on the preliminary investigation, it appears that the vehicle was traveling at a high rate of speed when the driver lost control,” officials noted. While authorities confirmed that impairment is not suspected, the reckless nature of the crash raised significant concerns about public safety.
Emergency responders arrived on the scene shortly after the crash and provided immediate medical attention to both the teenage driver and his 18-year-old male passenger. Both individuals complained of pain and were transported by ambulance to a nearby hospital for evaluation. Fortunately, no residents of the homes struck were reported injured, although the emotional toll and disruption were considerable.
City building inspectors were dispatched to assess the structural damage to both homes. One of the houses sustained damage severe enough that occupancy was limited until electrical power could be safely restored. Families living in the impacted homes were forced to deal with unexpected chaos, disruption, and property loss.
The teenage driver was cited for driving without a license and reckless driving. He was later released into the custody of a guardian. While criminal charges may be limited due to his age, the families affected by this reckless behavior may still pursue civil legal action to recover damages.
Compensation Available for Victims of Property Damage and Emotional Distress
For victims in such situations, several types of compensation may be pursued. These can include payment for structural repairs, temporary housing expenses, loss of use of the home, emotional distress, and even the loss of personal belongings damaged in the crash. In some cases, punitive damages may be awarded due to the egregious nature of the driver’s conduct, particularly when it involves high-speed recklessness and lack of a valid license.
