Los Angeles, CA (FEB 26th, 2025)- A tragic pedestrian fatality on the 710 Freeway occurred Tuesday evening in Long Beach when a pedestrian was fatally struck on the northbound lanes. The California Highway Patrol (CHP) responded to the incident at approximately 8:34 p.m. after receiving reports of someone down on the freeway near the Long Beach Boulevard on-ramp.
According to CHP Officer Sergio Garcia, when officers arrived at the scene, they discovered the pedestrian lying on the right side of the freeway. Unfortunately, the victim had suffered severe injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Traffic Disruptions Following the Fatal Crash
In response to the fatal accident, CHP issued a SigAlert, which closed the third and fourth lanes of the northbound 710 Freeway. The lanes remained closed for several hours as investigators worked to determine the circumstances of the collision and clear the roadway. Authorities have not yet released information about the vehicle involved or whether the driver remained at the scene.
Pedestrian freeway accidents are particularly dangerous due to high vehicle speeds and limited visibility, especially at night. While it is still unclear why the pedestrian was on the freeway, incidents like this highlight the risks pedestrians and drivers face on California’s busy highways.
Compensation Available for Victims’ Families
When a pedestrian is fatally struck by a vehicle, the victim’s family may be entitled to compensation through a wrongful death claim. This type of legal claim can help cover:
- Medical and funeral expenses for the deceased
- Loss of income and financial support if the victim was a provider
- Pain and suffering experienced by the family
- Loss of companionship for surviving loved ones
In cases where driver negligence, speeding, or impaired driving contributed to the accident, the responsible party may be held legally accountable. Pursuing compensation is essential for families dealing with the unexpected financial and emotional burden of losing a loved one.
