Orange County, CA (Mar 15th, 2025)- A wheelchair pedestrian killed at Fullerton intersection has left a community mourning and raised concerns about pedestrian safety. The tragic accident occurred around 10:50 p.m. on Thursday at the intersection of West Commonwealth Avenue and Library Lane, according to Fullerton police spokeswoman Kristy Wells.

Details of the Accident

Authorities report that the victim, a man in a wheelchair, attempted to cross northbound at the intersection while the traffic signal was red. A westbound gray Hyundai, driven by a 41-year-old Fullerton resident, struck the man, leading to fatal injuries. Officers arriving at the scene immediately provided life-saving measures, but despite their efforts, the man was pronounced dead on-site by paramedics from the Fullerton Fire Department.

The driver of the Hyundai remained at the scene and cooperated with authorities. Preliminary investigations indicate that he was not under the influence of alcohol or drugs at the time of the crash. The identity of the victim has not yet been released, pending notification of his family.

Compensation for Victims in Pedestrian Accidents

In tragic accidents like this, the victim’s family may be entitled to compensation for their loss. Wrongful death claims can provide financial relief for funeral expenses, medical bills, lost future earnings, and emotional suffering. Additionally, if hazardous road conditions, improper traffic signals, or other external factors contributed to the crash, the city or other responsible parties could be held accountable.

Even if a pedestrian is found partially at fault—such as crossing against a red light—California follows comparative negligence laws, which may allow the victim’s family to recover damages. Families in such situations must understand their legal rights and options for pursuing justice.
