A woman in her 40s lost her life after being struck by a vehicle in Long Beach in the early morning hours of Sunday, March 29, 2026, in a collision that investigators are now asking the public to help solve. The driver did not remain at the scene, and Long Beach police traffic investigators are actively seeking witnesses and tips that could lead to an identification.
What Happened
According to the Long Beach Police Department, officers were dispatched to the area of Ninth Street and Fashion Avenue at approximately 3:55 a.m. Sunday after receiving reports of a collision. When officers arrived, Long Beach Fire Department personnel were already on scene providing medical aid to the victim, who had been struck while walking in the roadway outside of a marked crosswalk. Preliminary investigation indicates a white Toyota Tacoma was traveling westbound on Ninth Street at the time of the collision. After striking the pedestrian, the driver of the Tacoma fled the scene without stopping to render aid or identify themselves. The woman was transported to a local hospital, where she later succumbed to her injuries. Long Beach Police were notified of the fatality on Wednesday, April 1.
Emergency Response and Investigation
Long Beach Fire Department personnel responded immediately and provided emergency medical care at the scene. The Long Beach Police Department Collision Investigation Detail has taken over the case and is actively investigating. Detectives are asking anyone who witnessed the crash or has information about the white Toyota Tacoma to contact Detective Ashley VanHolland at 562-570-7355. Anonymous tips can be submitted through LA Crime Stoppers by calling 1-800-222-TIPS or at LACrimeStoppers.org.
Injuries and Community Impact
The victim, a woman in her 40s whose name has not yet been released pending notification of her family, was pronounced deceased at the hospital. The driver of the white Toyota Tacoma remains unidentified and at large. Long Beach police are urging anyone with information about this collision or the suspect vehicle to come forward.
Understanding Your Legal Rights After a Pedestrian Hit-and-Run
Hit-and-run crashes that result in death are among the most difficult cases for surviving families, both emotionally and legally. In California, the family of a pedestrian killed by a negligent driver — even one who has not yet been identified — may have legal options available to them. Uninsured motorist coverage and other avenues can sometimes provide a path to compensation even when the at-fault driver has fled. An experienced pedestrian accident attorney can help surviving family members understand what options exist under California law and guide them through the process of seeking accountability.
