Los Angeles, CA (FEB 12TH, 2025)- A wrong-way crash on the 405 Freeway in Sherman Oaks early Tuesday morning resulted in the tragic death of the wrong-way driver and left two others injured. The incident caused hourslong lane closures and snarled rush-hour traffic for thousands of commuters.

According to the California Highway Patrol (CHP), the collision occurred at approximately 4:06 a.m. near the Valley Vista Boulevard exit on the southbound lanes of the 405 Freeway. CHP Officer Sergio Garcia confirmed that the crash involved multiple vehicles, with the wrong-way driver colliding head-on with another car. Witnesses first reported seeing the wrong-way motorist driving north in the southbound carpool lane near the Getty Center before the devastating crash.

Emergency responders arrived promptly at the scene, but the wrong-way driver, a man believed to be in his 30s, was pronounced dead on-site. The driver’s identity has not yet been released. The motorist he struck head-on was rushed to Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center with severe injuries, including multiple broken bones.

Despite the critical injuries, the victim was reportedly alert and responsive while speaking with paramedics and officers. A third individual involved in the crash declined further medical treatment after being evaluated by the Los Angeles Fire Department.
