Two people were injured early Sunday morning when a driver entered the northbound Interstate 15 freeway traveling in the wrong direction and collided head-on with another vehicle in Victorville. The crash was reported at approximately 6 a.m. on August 2, 2026, on the northbound I-15 just south of Palmdale Road. Firefighters used hydraulic rescue tools — commonly known as the Jaws of Life — to free the wrong-way driver who was trapped in the wreckage.
What Happened
According to CHP officers at the scene, the driver of the Nissan was traveling the wrong way on the northbound Interstate 15 after entering the freeway from the Palmdale Road on-ramp in the opposing direction. Authorities found a silver 2025 Nissan Versa displaying Utah license plates and a red 2023 VinFast, both with major front-end damage. The collision occurred at highway speed, causing significant structural damage to both vehicles. The driver of the Nissan became trapped inside the vehicle following the impact. Firefighters used hydraulic rescue tools, commonly known as the Jaws of Life, to extricate the driver from the wreckage.
Emergency Response and Investigation
Firefighters with the Victorville Fire Department, deputies with the Victorville Police Department, and officers from the California Highway Patrol responded to the scene. Both drivers were transported by ground ambulance to St. Mary’s Medical Center for treatment. An update on their conditions was not available at the time of this article. The crash prompted a full closure of the northbound lanes of Interstate 15 while emergency crews treated the injured and investigators processed the scene. At 7:06 a.m., at least one northbound lane reopened. The California Highway Patrol’s Victorville Area office is handling the investigation.
