Los Angeles, CA (OCT 20th, 2025)- Wrong-Way Driver Dies on I-5 in Burbank after a tragic early-morning collision that left multiple vehicles damaged and one person dead. Authorities believe alcohol played a major role in the deadly crash, which occurred just before dawn on Sunday.
According to the California Highway Patrol (CHP), the accident happened around 3:45 a.m. on the northbound lanes of the Golden State (I-5) Freeway near Alameda Avenue in Burbank. A wrong-way driver was reportedly heading southbound in the northbound lanes when they collided head-on with another vehicle. The impact was so severe that a third vehicle became involved, flipping onto its roof after the initial collision.
The Los Angeles Fire Department confirmed one fatality at approximately 3:57 a.m., identifying the deceased as the wrong-way motorist. CHP Officer Shanelle Phillips reported that all vehicles remained at the scene following the collision. “Party #1 (wrong-way motorist) was later located within vehicle #1 deceased,” she said, adding that alcohol is believed to have been a factor in the crash.
Authorities issued a Sigalert around 4:28 a.m. to close all northbound lanes of the freeway at Alameda Avenue while emergency personnel worked to clear the wreckage. Traffic lanes reopened by 8:46 a.m. No other fatalities were reported, but several motorists sustained injuries and required medical attention at the scene.
Possible Compensation for Victims
Victims injured in wrong-way or DUI-related crashes may be entitled to significant compensation under California law. This can include reimbursement for medical expenses, lost wages, pain and suffering, and emotional distress. In cases involving extreme negligence—such as drunk driving—victims may also pursue punitive damages meant to punish the reckless party. Families who lose loved ones in such accidents may file a wrongful death claim to recover funeral costs, loss of companionship, and future financial support that the deceased would have provided.
Even when the at-fault driver dies, victims can often still seek recovery through the driver’s insurance policy or estate. However, navigating the complex legal process and insurance negotiations can be challenging without skilled representation.
