One person was killed in a single-vehicle collision in San Jose earlier this week. The fatal incident took place on the Interstate 880 off-ramp to Bascom Avenue. It was reported to the authorities just after 4:20 p.m. on Wednesday, June 30.
According to the details shared by the California Highway Patrol, the sole vehicle involved in the collision in San Jose was identified as a Mazda. It was traveling along the southbound lanes of the I-880 off-ramp when it suffered the crash. As the vehicle was headed towards the ramp exit, the driver of the Mazda lost control for some reason.
The Mazda then slightly veered away from the road and crashed into the barrier separating both sides of the road. The sheer impact of the collision caused serious damage to the vehicle. The driver of the Mazda was its sole occupant at the time of the crash. He suffered critical injuries in the collision.
By the time the first responders and paramedics arrived on the scene of the crash, the Mazda driver had succumbed to his injuries. He was pronounced dead on the scene of the crash.
CHP continues to investigate the crash. Preliminary investigations show that the Mazda was speeding just before it crashed into the concrete barrier. It is likely that the driver lost control of the vehicle when negotiating a curve in the road.
Following the accident, CHP shut down the off-ramp to conduct on-site investigations and cleanup. The off-ramp remained closed for several hours and was reopened around 7 p.m.
During its investigations, CHP has not yet ruled out alcohol or speeding as contributing factors. For Orange County crashes like these, an Orange County car accident attorney can help the families and survivors of single-crash victims recover compensatory damages if any outside negligence is involved.
