Orange County, CA (June 7, 2024)-Huntington Beach Collision: Jyles Timothy Sellers, a 24-year-old from Huntington Beach, faced his initial court appearance on Thursday, charged with gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated following a fatal hit-and-run incident.
The arraignment, initially slated for this session, has been postponed to June 28 at the West Justice Center in Westminster.
The charges are connected to a tragic accident on February 9, where Arturo Becerril Rodriguez, aged 55, also from Huntington Beach, lost his life. The collision happened late in the evening around 9:30 p.m. on Edinger Avenue, just east of Edwards Street.
According to police reports, Rodriguez was driving a 2010 Toyota Prius when struck by a 2017 Chevrolet Silverado, operated by Sellers.
Sellers allegedly fled the scene immediately following the collision. Emergency responders rushed Rodriguez to a nearby hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.
Sellers was apprehended shortly after the incident. He is accused of excessive speeding and driving under the influence, which police believe led to the rear-end collision that resulted in Rodriguez’s death.
