A suspected DUI crash on 91 Freeway resulted in the death of one woman. The fatal incident took place early on the morning of Sunday, April 4. It was reported to the authorities at around 2:30 a.m.
According to the details shared by the California Highway Patrol, the accident involved a collision between two vehicles. One of these was identified as a Nissan while the other was a Camaro.
The Nissan had been traveling eastbound along the 91 Freeway. As the vehicle was close to the Green River Road, the driver of the Nissan stopped in the middle of the roadway for some reason. Witnesses called in the vehicle to the CHP. However, before any troopers could arrive on the scene, the Camaro which was also traveling in the eastbound lanes struck the Nissan.
The Nissan had two occupants in it at the time of the crash, the driver and a passenger. The passenger suffered critical injuries in the collision. The Nissan driver carried the critically injured passenger out of the vehicle and laid her on the ground. The driver then fled the scene. He was identified as Luis Alberto Leonides, 22, of Santa Ana.
The passenger later died of her injuries. She was identified by the Riverside County Coroner’s Office as Breann Alizaga. Leonides later returned to the scene of the DUI crash on 91 Freeway. He was charged with hit-and-run as well as driving under the influence.
The Camaro had only its driver in it when it hit the Nissan. The driver failed to spot the stalled Nissan up ahead which led to the collision. He was identified as Baltazar Villanuevaramos, 34, of Monroe Valley. He was also arrested over suspicions of driving under the influence leading to the crash.
In crashes like this, both drivers may be found negligent. In Orange County accidents of this kind, the victim or the victim’s family can seek damages with the help of an Orange County car accident attorney.
