Santa Ana, CA (APR. 22, 2024)-A fatal crash involving a drunk driver claimed the life of a woman in Santa Ana early Sunday morning. The Santa Ana Police Department reported receiving multiple calls about a single-vehicle accident in the 800 block of South Main Street around 2:08 a.m.
First responders found a truck had crashed into a palm tree and then a pole. Inside the vehicle were three occupants: the driver and a male passenger in the back seat, along with a woman in the front passenger seat.
Emergency services extricated the occupants and transported them to a nearby hospital. Unfortunately, the female passenger succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced dead. The two men were reported to be in stable condition.
Investigators determined the driver, who had previous DUI arrests, was under the influence of alcohol and possibly drugs at the time of the crash. He faces charges of DUI causing death and vehicular manslaughter with gross negligence.
