Los Angeles, CA (July 5, 2024) – A fatal multi-car collision involving at least three semi-trucks, a UPS truck, and several other vehicles resulted in the death of one person on the Foothill (210) Freeway near Pasadena. The crash, which occurred late Wednesday night, led to the closure of the freeway for several hours as authorities investigated the circumstances surrounding the tragic event.
California Highway Patrol officers responded to the scene at 11:45 p.m. near the westbound freeway and Madre Street.
Upon arrival, they discovered a sedan and two semi-trucks blocking the middle lanes, alongside several other damaged vehicles, including a white Honda Civic, CHP Officer Sean Lough reported to City News Service.
One of the vehicles ended up on a hillside with a person trapped inside. Firefighters managed to free the individual, but the extent of their injuries was not immediately clear. Additionally, video footage from the scene showed oil spilled onto the freeway and large chunks of concrete scattered across the lanes.
The victim, whose identity has not yet been released, was transported to a hospital where they were later pronounced dead. The collision led to the closure of all westbound lanes near the North Michilinda Avenue off-ramp in Arcadia as CHP officers conducted their investigation.
