Head-On Crash in Carlsbad Leaves Man Seriously Injured

A man sustained serious injuries in a head-on crash in Carlsbad on Tuesday, December 29. The collision involved two SUVs which were identified as a Honda CR-V and a Dodge Durango. It was reported to the authorities at around 12:40 p.m.

According to the details shared by the Carlsbad Police Department, the two vehicles crashed head-on into each other on Alicante Road. The precise location of the incident was just south of the Tanzanite Drive.

Preliminary investigations by the CPD reveal that the collision came about when one of the vehicles left its lane and came into the path of the oncoming traffic. This vehicle was the Honda CR-V. The driver of the CR-V was headed northbound on the road when he veered away from his lane. The reason why the driver abandoned his northbound lanes is not known at this time.

As the CR-V moved from the northbound lanes into the southbound lanes, it came into the path of the southbound Dodge Durango. The Honda CR-V was traveling at a fairly high rate of speed at the time of the collision.

The sheer impact of the collision caused the driver of the Honda CR-V to sustain critical injuries. There was no passenger in the CR-V at the time. The driver of the Durango sustained relatively minor injuries in the crash.

Authorities have not identified either of the two men. However, it was confirmed that the CR-V driver was a 62-year-old male from Carlsbad. The Durango driver was identified as a 44-year-old Oceanside man.

Once the first responders and paramedic reached the scene of the crash, the critically injured Honda CR-V driver was rushed to a local hospital for further treatment. The head-on crash in Carlsbad remains under investigation.
