Los Angles, CA (May 17, 2024) – In a shocking turn of events in West Los Angeles, a woman in a van led a dangerous pursuit through the city, culminating in a wrong-way collision on the San Diego (405) Freeway that involved multiple vehicles.
The incident began around 4:20 a.m. when Los Angeles Police Department officers responded to a disturbance call at Fourth and Rose avenues in Venice.
The suspect fled in a van, striking an LAPD patrol car in her escape. Initially, the Los Angeles Fire Department reported that four officers were examined for injuries, with one transported to a hospital, but it was later confirmed that only two officers were transported with non-serious injuries.
The pursuit escalated as police attempted to halt the van using PIT maneuvers, causing visible damage to the vehicle.
However, the suspect continued her erratic driving, entering the northbound 405 freeway lanes in the wrong direction on several occasions and reaching speeds close to 100 mph amid smoke billowing from under the hood.
Her reckless maneuvers included steering towards an oncoming vehicle before swerving away, weaving through traffic, and ultimately causing a collision with multiple vehicles and a big rig near the Wilshire Boulevard exit.
After the crash, the woman, wearing a white tank top and with visible blood on her face, exited the van and climbed onto the roof of the vehicle, then onto the hood of the big rig where she was eventually apprehended by authorities.
Despite the extensive damage and potential for severe injuries, no serious injuries were reported from the freeway crash, though one individual was taken to a hospital in unknown condition.
Eyewitness David Hill described the terrifying moment the white van crashed into the traffic, hitting the car in front of him and then his own vehicle. Concerned for his safety, he quickly moved to the freeway shoulder, unsure of the driver’s intentions.
The incident led to significant traffic disruptions on the northbound side of the freeway, with only two left lanes reopened by mid-morning, causing extensive backups.
In such harrowing situations, victims and their families face not only immediate physical and emotional distress but also long-term financial burdens.
