Los Angeles, CA (June 26, 2024) – A tragic accident in Compton resulted in the death of a 9-year-old boy who was among four individuals critically injured in a collision involving a Metro bus and a car. The boy succumbed to his injuries at a hospital, authorities announced on Tuesday.

The Los Angeles County Fire Department reported that paramedics were dispatched to the scene at Rosecrans Avenue and San Pedro Street around 10:25 a.m. on Monday.

The accident involved a Hyundai Elantra, with all four occupants transported to the hospital in critical condition. The bus driver was also taken to the hospital but only suffered minor injuries, as stated by both the fire department and the California Highway Patrol (CHP).

The CHP, currently investigating the crash, identified the Hyundai’s driver as Rosa Corado, 41, of Los Angeles. The 9-year-old boy was a passenger, alongside two women aged 35 and 40.

In an official statement, the CHP confirmed, “The juvenile succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased at the hospital.” The name of the boy has been withheld pending notification of his family.

The CHP added, “The Metro bus driver was transported to the hospital for minor injuries. There were no passengers aboard the Metro bus at the time of the crash. The events leading up to this crash are still being investigated.”

Metro released a statement on Monday, saying, “This morning, a vehicle collided with an eastbound Metro 127 bus at Rosecrans Avenue at San Pedro Street in West Rancho Dominguez. The Metro bus operator was transported to a local hospital with minor injuries. There were no reported passenger injuries on the bus.”
