Los Angeles, CA (APR. 30, 2024)- A serious collision involving a Metro E Line train and a USC Transportation bus in the Exposition Park area resulted in the hospitalization of 18 people, with three dozen others receiving minor injury treatment on site.

The incident occurred just before noon in the 900 block of West Exposition Boulevard, adjacent to the USC campus, according to the Los Angeles Fire Department.

Two individuals, believed to have been passengers on the bus, were transported to hospitals in serious condition. Meanwhile, 16 other patients were taken to hospitals in fair condition, and 37 others were treated and released at the scene. Fortunately, there were no children among the injured, as confirmed by fire officials.

An LAFD spokesperson noted that more than 150 passengers were on the train when the accident occurred. Emergency response teams set up a triage area to assess the various injured parties.

As a precaution, the Expo Park/USC Station along the E Line was temporarily closed for the duration of the investigation. Metro arranged for bus shuttles to transport passengers between the Jefferson/USC and Expo/Vermont stations.
