Los Angeles, CA (July 11, 2024) – Cyclist Tragically Killed in Irwindale: A man is in custody following a tragic incident where a cyclist was fatally struck by a vehicle in Irwindale. The suspect, who was fleeing police in a stolen car, caused the fatal accident.
The collision occurred around 8:31 p.m. on Tuesday near Arrow Highway and Rivergrade Road, close to the Santa Fe Dam Recreation Area.
Irwindale Police Department Sgt. Diego Cornejo informed City News Service that after the crash, the suspect drove away from the scene, abandoned the vehicle, and attempted to flee on foot.
Thanks to vigilant witnesses who alerted the authorities to the suspect’s location, Irwindale police were able to apprehend him shortly thereafter.
Sgt. Cornejo reported that the suspect had been booked into the West Covina Jail on suspicion of murder. The authorities have not yet released the suspect’s identity.
The series of events leading to the tragic accident began when the El Monte Police Department informed Irwindale officers that the suspect had allegedly stolen a car from a Toyota dealership in El Monte. The El Monte police pursued the suspect as he drove from El Monte into Irwindale but had to call off the pursuit before the suspect fatally struck the cyclist.
