Orange County, CA (APR. 25, 2024) – On Thursday, April 25, 2024, a tragic incident involving a vehicle and a bicyclist occurred at W. Orangethorpe Ave. and Campus Dr., as reported by the Fullerton Police Department.

Police officers were dispatched to the scene at around 9:05 PM and arrived to find an adult male bicyclist in the roadway with severe injuries and a nearby black Dodge Journey. The driver of the Dodge, a 19-year-old resident of Buena Park, remained at the scene of the collision.

Upon arrival, Fullerton Fire responders pronounced the adult male bicyclist deceased. Preliminary investigations suggest that the Dodge Journey was traveling eastbound on Orangethorpe Ave. in the number one lane from Auto Center Dr. at an unknown speed when it collided with the bicyclist.

The bicyclist was traveling in an unknown direction on Orangethorpe Ave. in the eastbound number one lane west of Campus Dr. Neither drugs nor alcohol appear to have played a role in the collision, and there are currently no indications that any other vehicles were involved.

In the wake of such a tragic accident, it’s important to consider the legal implications and potential compensations available to the victims or their families.

In cases like this, the surviving family members of the deceased may be entitled to wrongful death compensation. This can include damages for medical expenses, funeral and burial costs, lost wages, and the loss of companionship, guidance, and support the deceased would have provided.

Additionally, survivors may be able to seek punitive damages if the driver’s conduct was particularly reckless or negligent.

Punitive damages serve as both a punishment to the responsible party and a deterrent to others who might engage in similar conduct. The injured party’s legal rights should be thoroughly assessed with the help of an experienced attorney.
