Santa Ana, CA (July 10, 2024). Santa Ana motorist arrested for DUI: In a tragic incident that has left a family in critical condition, a Santa Ana motorist was arrested for DUI after hitting a family on bicycles and fleeing the scene.
The Garden Grove police officers swiftly responded to a major traffic collision on the 12300 Block of Haster St., only to discover the devastating aftermath of a hit-and-run accident involving two adults and three minors.
Upon arrival, officers found the adult bicyclists, a 27-year-old male (victim #4) and a 25-year-old female (victim #5), severely injured.
They were towing separate bicycle trailers containing their children: a 7-month-old female (victim #1), a 5-year-old male (victim #2), and a 7-year-old female (victim #3).
The collision occurred when a black 2003 Toyota Camry, driven by 29-year-old Ceferino Ramos of Santa Ana, struck the family and then fled the scene.
Fortunately, a vigilant witness followed the suspect vehicle, maintaining visual contact and relaying critical information to dispatch.
This quick-thinking individual played a crucial role in helping officers apprehend Ramos. A traffic stop was conducted, and Ramos, the solo occupant and driver of the vehicle, was detained.
Sobriety tests confirmed that Ramos was under the influence, leading to his arrest for suspected DUI hit-and-run. He was subsequently booked into Orange County Jail.
The victims received immediate medical attention from the Orange County Fire Authority at the scene before being transported to a local hospital. While victim #5 has been released, victim #4, victim #3, and victim #2 remain in critical condition, and victim #1 is in stable condition.
