A fatal Willow Road crash at the intersection of Highway 101 resulted in the death of one person. The deceased victim was identified by the authorities as Pyong Yun Song, 60, of Nipomo.
According to the details shared by the California Highway Patrol, the crash occurred in the afternoon on Wednesday, September 1. It was reported to the authorities just after 4:15 p.m. The incident involved two vehicles which were identified as a Cadillac Escalade and a semi-truck.
The semi-truck was traveling northbound along Highway 101 at the time. As the truck drove close to Willow Road, the front right tire of the vehicle blew out. This caused the driver to lose control. The truck then veered to a side and crashed into the metal guard rail.
Heavy equipment was being hauled on the truck at the time of the collision. The crash caused the equipment to fall off the truck and roll down the road. One of the pieces of heavy equipment fell on top of the Escalade that Song was driving.
The Escalade had stopped at the Willow Road offramp at the time. As the piece of heavy equipment fell on top of the vehicle, it crushed the Escalade. Song was killed in the incident.
The debris from the excavator which had fallen down on the Escalade also struck a second vehicle nearby. However, the second driver only suffered property damage and had no personal injury to report.
Once the first responders and law enforcement personnel arrived on the scene of the accident, the offramp was closed to traffic. One Highway 101 lane was also shut down as on-site cleanup and investigation was being conducted.
In Orange County accidents like these, the victims or victims’ families can seek compensatory damages from the trucking company with the help of an Orange County truck accident lawyer.
