Three-Car Crash Outside Riverbank Claims One Life [Riverbank, CA]

Riverbank, CA-A tragic three-car collision outside Riverbank on Tuesday morning, December 14, resulted in the loss of one driver’s life and left another severely injured. 

The incident, which occurred at approximately 9:43 a.m. at the intersection of Highway 108/Patterson Road and Skittone Road, has left the community reeling from the profound impact of the accident.

According to statements from CHP spokesman Tom Olsen, the driver of a white Ford SUV, identified as Kolleen Jackson, aged 86, of Riverbank, was alone at the time of the collision. Tragically, Jackson succumbed to the injuries sustained in the crash.

The injured driver, identified as Summer Cheever, aged 27, of Modesto, was accompanied by three young children in a green Chevrolet SUV. Cheever suffered serious injuries and was promptly transported to Doctors Medical Center for urgent medical attention. 

The children, identified as Sophia Aldaz, 6 months old, Vanessa Aldaz, 2 years old, and Joseph Aldaz, 3 years old, were also taken to the hospital for evaluation but fortunately emerged from the ordeal unscathed.

Preliminary investigations revealed that Brandon Garcia-Castro of Oakdale was driving a Honda sedan along Patterson Road when he slowed down to make a left turn onto Skittone Road. Jackson, approaching from behind, attempted to avoid rear-ending the Honda by veering left. 

However, Jackson’s vehicle was traveling at an unsafe speed, causing the right front of the Ford to collide with the left rear of the Honda. Subsequently, the Ford rotated clockwise upon impact, ultimately overturning onto its left side. Meanwhile, Cheever’s Chevrolet collided with the right side of the Ford during the overturning sequence.

In the aftermath of the three-car crash, traffic diversions were implemented, rerouting vehicles onto Coffee Road. Patterson Road remained closed until after 11:30 a.m. The involvement of drugs or alcohol in the collision has yet to be determined, as investigations continue.

This tragic incident serves as a stark reminder of the importance of adhering to traffic safety guidelines, particularly when transporting young children. 

The CHP news release emphasized the necessity of ensuring that children under the age of 2 are securely placed in rear-facing car seats and reiterated the requirement for children to remain in appropriate car seats until they reach the age of 8.
