Orange County, CA (MAY. 5, 2024)-A police pursuit ended in tragedy on Sunday when an alleged domestic violence suspect was shot and killed by police.
The pursuit culminated in a violent crash that took the life of an innocent driver uninvolved in the initial incident.
The series of events began around 10:30 a.m. when officers responded to reports of a disturbance in the 400 block of W. Maple Street, as stated by Ontario Police Department Officer Maqueira.
Upon arrival, officers learned that two women were being threatened by one of their boyfriends, who had a history of domestic violence. The suspect was allegedly brandishing a gun and threatening the women.
Officers found the suspect nearby, seated in a car. Despite attempts to negotiate with him, the man refused to cooperate and exit the vehicle.
Instead, the suspect fled the scene at high speed, prompting a police pursuit. During the chase, the suspect drove on the wrong side of the 60 Freeway, entering via an off-ramp.
The pursuit ended near Grove Avenue and Philadelphia Street, where the suspect crashed into another uninvolved vehicle, which in turn collided with a second car.
Police stated that the suspect exited his car and attempted to carjack another driver while armed with a handgun.
However, he failed to seize the vehicle and fled on foot. Officers shot the suspect a short distance away near Cucamonga Avenue and Cedar Street. The suspect was taken to a hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries.
The crash left two victims hospitalized. Unfortunately, one victim later died from her injuries. Her identity has not yet been released, while the second victim was treated for minor injuries and subsequently released.
