How to Find Traffic Accident Reports in Irvine

Before Requesting a Traffic Accident Report Make Sure It Is Available

Your TCR report may not be available for several days after the collision. After investigators have completed their analysis, the report will need to be finalized by the responding deputy and approved by their sergeant. Then, the report must be submitted to the Information Management Bureau to be processed and transferred to the Records Department. Only after it has been processed can you request a copy of your TCR.

Before you request a copy of a traffic accident report, call the appropriate government agency to confirm that the TCR is available. If you believe the Orange County Sheriff’s Department is investigating, you can call the non-emergency line at 714–834–6454 between the hours of 8 AM and 5 PM, Monday through Friday to find out whether it is available. Alternatively, you can visit the office between 8 AM and 4 PM to speak with someone in person.

You should be prepared to provide the following information to request a copy of the TCR:

• The date of the accident
• Your name
• How you relate to the accident
• Where the accident occurred
• Your investigation number provided by the responding officer

According to the California Public Records Act under Cal. Gov. Code 7923.600, if you submit a crash report request without a court order, the Police Department will need to treat it as a public records request. This would give the Sheriff’s office an opportunity to produce non-exempt records within 10 days of your request per Cal. Gov. Code 7922.535.

The city of Irvine allows car accident victims to request copies of their TCRs by phone, email, in person, or through the mail.

Phone Requests

You can request a copy of your TCR directly through the Irvine Police Department by calling the business desk line at 949–724–7000.

Online Report Requests

Processing times could be decreased by requesting a TCR online. There is an electronic version of the Request for Police Report form which can be found on the City of Irvine’s website. Once you have filled out the online form in its entirety on your computer or smartphone, scroll to the bottom of the page and click Submit. Do not forget to include your email address so you can receive your TCR electronically.

In-Person Accident Report Requests

If you would rather visit the Irvine Police Department in person to request a copy of your car accident report, you can do so between the hours of 7:30 AM and 8 PM, Monday through Friday. The office is also open on Saturdays between the hours of 9 AM and 1 PM. The business desk office is located at:
